Description

This is an intensive workshop that aims at improving student’s observational skills, sculpture techniques and knowledge of human anatomy and form. This course is specifically designed to introduce students to sculptural methods that help simplify the complexities of the human figure. Over the course students will sculpt from life a ¾ life-size torso with water-based clay. Group lessons and daily individual critiques will help to guide them through this process. Students will then prepare their sculpture to kiln fired locally at their convenience.

Students are responsible for their own clay and are encouraged to build their own armatures; The studio will advise students prior to the workshop on the preferred clay of choice and supply simple armature schematic for students to construct and bring. Some tools are available for use. Kiln firing not included, cost approximately $100 (South Australian prices).

Sculpting a human skull is an important study to understand the basic structure of the face which ultimately adds to one’s deeper understanding of portraiture.

This is an intensive workshop aimed at improving the student’s knowledge of the skull, observational skills and sculpture techniques.
In this workshop we will cover the fundamentals of the skull universal to all. I will then introduce students to a sculptural method which helps them to place depth as well as find and place points of reference on their sculpture accurately. Then working from a life size plaster cast students will sculpt their own skull in water base clay.

In the last lesson (Sunday), there will be no sculpting and we will join the other workshop at 12.00 pm to hollow out the skull for students to take home, dry and then fire at their own convenience.
This workshop is suitable for beginners in sculpture and for portrait enthusiasts across all platforms.

Over the course of the workshop Georgina will give group demos and daily individual critiques will help to guide them through this process.
Materials, clay and armature are to be supplied by the student- more info on this upon enrolment
